RICO
Rico’s story highlights just how powerful it can be when we all work together to find a home for shelter pets. We sponsored his neuter thanks to a generous donation from a dog walker after he wasn’t getting the attention he deserved at the shelter. Because of his neuter, he became eligible to go to events with other shelter animals. One of us took him to an adoption event at a local brewery while the other PWAA social media administrator posted live updates of his adorable antics doing tricks and giving hugs to anyone who would accept them. While we thought the day was a bust when an adopter didn’t materialize at the brewery, little did we know a family was watching our social media accounts closely, considering Rico as a new family member. They came in the next day and almost didn’t meet him due to his goofy kennel antics, but one of the amazing adoption specialists at the Animal Services Center talked them through this common behavior and encouraged a meeting where there was an immediate connection between Rico and the son. Now they are best friends and we are thrilled to get frequent updates from Rico’s family.

VIOLET and DASH
Violet and Dash were a pair of semi-feral kittens that were in the shelter system for several months. When it became clear they were being overlooked by adopters looking for kittens we decided to spay them both and sponsor their adoptions, in hopes that someone would be willing to take a chance on one or both of these girls. They were adopted together only 3 days after their spay and we couldn’t be happier. Violet and Dash were spayed thanks to a grant from the Homeless Animals Support Network for the purpose of spaying and neutering homeless cats to make them more adoptable.

Taffy was brought in as a stray with several health issues including a large mass on her stomach and serious ear infections. Not feeling her best, she was also depressed. We got Taffy’s large mass (and a couple smaller ones) removed, had her spayed and sponsored her ear treatment. We also sponsored her adoption because she seemed so sad and being of a certain age we weren’t sure how easily she’d catch the eye of an adopter. Almost immediately after her vet care she perked up and became the bouncy, happy life of every party. She became an ambassador for her breed, for shelter dogs, and a poster child for what PWAA can do with help from the community. All this within just a couple weeks since it wasn’t long before her family fell in love with her sweet nature and took her home.

AVA
AVA had been a resident of the Animal Services Center for ten months. She came in as a stray, undersocialized and displaying some very fearful behavior. In February she became a PWAA dog when we had her spayed and sponsored her adoption.
It became clear very early on that even most experienced dog walkers were not equipped to safely interact with her and so it fell on the amazing animal care staff to be sure she was not only cared for but got proper enrichment and plenty of love. Many of us personally witnessed these caretakers outside in the yard with her day after day helping her slowly gain their trust. We didn’t post about Ava much because none of us really knew her that well but we put our trust in the caretakers and adoption specialists to do what they felt was right to get Ava the right home. And when they thought she was ready for wider circulation they made several videos of her for us to spread the word on social media. Just last week we featured Ava ahead of Clear the Shelters and we could genuinely see the care and pride Zuri showed for her.
THANK YOU animal care staff for not giving up on this girl and seeing the tremendous potential in her. I hope you are all sharing a toast tonight to Ava as she spends her first night in a real home in a very long time.

BORE (now Bandit)
We absolutely love it when fate intervenes in our plans! On Monday we got a request to send Bore for a neuter and x-rays. On Wednesday he was transported to the vet and never came back to the shelter. His new mom writes:
“Having 5 cats seemed impossible to find a Husky that actually loved being around cats without thinking they were lunch. Enter Bore (now Bandit) he LOVES his Feline Family and his two new sisters! I fell in love with him from the moment he came into River Oaks Veterinary Clinic for his neuter and X-rays. I wound up going straight to the shelter after work and adopting him before he ever left my job!”
Bandit’s new family figured out what volunteers and staff have long known – he is pretty perfect. Happy life, handsome!

RACKZ (now REX)
Rackz was surrendered after his owner could not provide the veterinary care needed to fix his broken leg. Because the break was old (and Rackz was still very young) it had already healed quite badly and so the only option for him was amputation. Rackz was fostered by a dog walker and friend of PWAA where he grabbed the attention of a friend of hers. When Rackz went up for adoption, he stood in line for hours for the opportunity to adopt him. Rackz (now Rex) is currently in training to be a therapy dog for amputees and people with disabilities.

MEREDITH (now MERIDA)
Meredith’s (now Merida’s) new mom writes:
We met Meredith at the Prince William Count Animal Shelter’s Valentine’s Day speed dating event. We fell in love with her right away, but had a foster dog at home. We knew we couldn’t adopt that day.
With the shelter so full of wonderful pitties, we were hopeful Mere would still be there once our foster dog went to her forever home the following weekend…but we were only half right.
We took our foster out to her new family in Ashburn on Saturday morning and we raced to the shelter to bring our girl home. We had already renamed her and bought themed accessories. We didn’t know she had been adopted that very morning.
When we arrived, we spotted her sitting outside with her clearly heartbroken adopter. I sat down with them and we started talking. She’d also fallen in love with Meredith, adopted and brought her home, but soon realized it just wouldn’t work. She cried the whole way back to the shelter, feeling like she had given Meredith false hope of a forever home. I told her we were actually coming in that day for one dog, and one dog only: Meredith. We told her morning adopter maybe she was meant to be our dog’s fairy godmother.
And so the shelter dog Meredith became our pittie princess, Merida. Merida bears her fairy godmother’s first name as her middle name. She will always be part of Merida’s story.
We’d heard that before she was brought in as a stray, Merida had been spotted wandering outside…alone, unchipped, unaltered. Now, and with special thanks to PWAA and the shelter, we are able to give this brave girl the princess life she has always deserved. A warm bed, a loving home, and at least a thousand snuggles and kisses each day.

After she was all fixed up and ready for her forever home, we put out a desperate plea for an adopter for this older gal since she was quite depressed at the shelter. Friends of one of our board members were interested but due to the success of our post someone else adopted her immediately. Despite a big heart and best intentions, they could not make it work with Ginger and their resident dog and small children. So our board member’s wife called up her friends and they met Ginger’s adopter at the shelter to make the swap. Ginger now lives happily with her own pack of beagles.

CHOPPA and STORM
Choppa and Storm stole our hearts from the moment we finally met them. For awhile, all we knew was we were helping two 13-year old bonded pit bulls that had been surrendered. They were scared, in need of medical attention and staff wanted them to get fixed up and decompress before coming up to the adoption floor. Both dogs needed dentals with many extractions (10+ each) and Choppa needed an x-ray for his leg as he came in with a limp. We knew it would be difficult getting these two adopted together even after meeting all their immediate veterinary needs. But after a shelter post about them went viral, a kind soul came and rescued them both. Their adopter frequently shares updates and continues to warm the hearts of this pair’s many many local fans.

ANTONIO
Antonio first arrived as a stray almost SIX MONTHS ago. For many weeks he was the resident “problem child” and his rambunctious antics got him prohibited from being walked by volunteers. He languished there for several more weeks until our favorite foster extraordinaire Rebecca decided to try to work her magic on him and thus began a journey that took Antonio from wild child to (mostly) well-behaved as she figured out what made him tick (adventure! Mental stimulation!) and his preferences (being part of a pack!). We stepped in and sponsored his neuter and adoption and most importantly Kellenberger Kennels and Proper Manners Obedience Training gave Antonio and his foster mom some much-needed obedience training that will last Antonio the rest of his life and hopefully have a ripple effect for Rebecca’s future fostering adventures as well. Before making it official, Antonio met with his new family twice, the second time with their resident dog, to make sure it was just the perfect fit and so far everyone is happy!

A fellow dog walker wanted to help and donated to us to fund his neuter and adoption sponsorship. After sitting some time longer, yet another dog walker fostered Oslo and fell in love with him. Turns out he was dehydrated and covered in fleas and ticks. After being put up for adoption, PWAA received a desperate plea from a volunteer in the cat room: Chowder stunk! Living on the streets and being intact meant that Chowder’s confined living space was not smelling so great. So we had Chowder neutered and got him a bath to help him on his way to looking and feeling his very best. He was adopted soon after.

She was miserable in the shelter environment so we sponsored her and had her spayed thanks to a grant from the Prince William County Humane Society that we received for the purpose of spaying and neutering homeless cats to make them more adoptable. Soon after a volunteer took her into foster because she had stopped eating and drinking because she was so unhappy. Willow spent a couple months in foster, and despite our efforts at networking her was not getting any traction. She was brought back to the shelter in hopes of attracting an adopted through walk-in traffic but wasn’t having any luck and again because very unhappy. Willow’s foster mom couldn’t stand to see her so blue and one day took her home for good where once again she is a beloved member of a family.

NALA
Sponsored and adopted
From Nala’s foster mom:
After spending way too many months in the shelter and clearly being overlooked because of her age and health problems, Nala starting to become depressed and very stiff from arthritis as she could not get up and move around like she needed to. I brought sweet Nala home to foster and to regain some strength and mobility. She absolutely blossomed while with me for the last 2 months and recently found her perfect person to spend however long she has left living her best life and being spoiled everyday! I was so happy to have helped her become happy and comfortable again and to have let her true personality shine through. Fostering an older or sick animal really does save their life and I will continue to help the underdogs. Happy life sweet Nala!

THEO
Theo was neutered thanks to a grant from the Prince William County Humane Society that we received for the purpose of spaying and neutering homeless cats to make them more adoptable.
DIANE
Diane was spayed thanks to a grant from the Prince William County Humane Society that we received for the purpose of spaying and neutering homeless cats to make them more adoptable.
GRACE (center)
Grace came into the world after a very difficult birth and her umbilical cord was wrapped around her leg. After her foster mom observed her struggling and dragging the leg, the decision was made to amputate it at one week old to avoid further complications, and we gladly stepped in to help. Since she was so little, Grace, her littermates, and her mama made the trip together to the vet so they wouldn’t have to be separated! Grace didn’t waste any time catching up with her siblings and “made weight” the same time as the rest of them. She was adopted with one of her littermates and is thriving as a tri-pawd.
DEXTER
Sponsored (with neuter and dental) and adopted.
Dexter was neutered thanks to a grant from the Prince William County Humane Society that we received for the purpose of spaying and neutering homeless cats to make them more adoptable.
JERSEY
Jersey came to the shelter in terrible shape. Her skin was all itchy and patchy and her eyes were horribly infected. Once she started treatment for her infected eyes it became apparent she needed entropian correction surgery for both eyelids. We covered that surgery and her spay thanks to a generous donor with shelter alumni of her own, who took a shine to Jersey. Jersey was fostered by a friend of PWAA and became our unofficial mascot. As her health and appearance steadily improved, her fans absolutely loved to see her latest crazy antics on social media.

MACY
When Macy was surrendered, staff and volunteers alike fell head over heels for this big beauty and we were certain she’d be adopted in no time. The days dragged on and a networking attempt revealed there was much interest in Macy but her intact status and breed were barriers. Being intact meant she could only be adopted to a county resident, and being a Great Dane meant that the procedure known as stomach tacking would be highly recommended for her health and safety. She had admirers from all over but no one locally was willing to pay for both procedures at once. Working with shelter staff we were able to get her an appointment right away for both procedures. She was adopted the very next day.
HUCKLEBERRY
Huckleberry was neutered thanks to a grant from the Prince William County Humane Society that we received for the purpose of spaying and neutering homeless cats to make them more adoptable.

MOTI
Moti was neutered thanks to a grant from the Prince William County Humane Society that we received for the purpose of spaying and neutering homeless cats to make them more adoptable.
MAISIE MAE
Maisie Mae’s story was heartbreaking. She was found abandoned on the side of I-95, standing loyally by her fallen pack mate. She arrived at the shelter and tested positive for heartworm. We sponsored her treatment while one of the fellow dog walkers fostered her through it, showing her how to be an indoor dog while herself learning to love the eccentricities of hound dogs.
MEENA and PORSCHE
Bonded pair, both sponsored with dentals and adopted.
IRIS

ZOE
Zoe was found as a stray and was sponsored by PWAA. We covered her adoption fees and the cost of much needed dental surgery. But Zoe remained sad and depressed in the shelter, not eating well and still just curled up all day in a corner. After a month, it was clear she needed a foster to give her a break from shelter life, and PWAA board member Karen Gray Edwards became her new foster mom. A home environment made Zoe’s true wonderful personality come out. Zoe is a friendly, affectionate, and playful cat. Updated pictures and videos from her time in foster made the difference in finding Zoe her forever home. She was adopted without ever having to return to shelter life and is now a much-loved member of her new family

Coco and Blitzen did not arrive at the shelter together. Coco and Blitzen were adopted together and now live as siblings.
OSCAR (formerly TRIO)
BUTTERS (formerly WEASAL)
I’m sure all of our supporters remember STEVE the visually impaired stray cat we sponsored. When our board member Mike and his wife Michele adopted Steve all the way back in August, they sponsored Butters (back then he was Weasel) and paid for his neuter while we paid to have a bunch of his broken teeth extracted. They felt terrible this poor big boy was so unhappy in the shelter. Butters has had a long journey since then, moving to foster and learning how to live inside a warm home and love humans. Despite his dapper good looks, he didn’t get a lot of interest from potential adopters and matters were made much worse recently when he was diagnosed as diabetic. The Donnellys kept an eye on Butters like his guardian angels and felt like his diagnosis was the final sign they needed that Butters was meant for them all along. They are experienced special needs cat owners and have even cared for a diabetic cat before. So, earlier this week, they took Butters HOME.
CAROLINE
Caroline arrived at the shelter after being rescued from the streets with her kittens. Barely older than a kitten herself, Caroline was saved from an endless cycle of having kittens and scavenging for food. Caroline was sponsored and spayed thanks to a grant from the Prince William County Humane Society that we received for the purpose of spaying and neutering homeless cats to make them more adoptable.

TINY DANCER
Tiny Dancer was one of 6 cats we paid for to have dentals done just in the month of September 2021 as part of a push to help with Clear the Shelters. She had a very sore, inflamed mouth and needed several extractions. But she became so much more than just one of our growing number of needy animals. Shortly before we took her on, one of us started spending more time in the shelter’s cat room in an effort to identify harder to adopt cats to network. Tiny Dancer was one of those cats, painfully shy and always hissing upon approach to her condo. We made it our mission to win over Tiny, visiting with her once or twice a week and trying to win her over with treats. Very slowly she started to show interest in us and we developed a bond with her. All the while we were posting about her progress on social media, showing everyone we could reach that if you’d just spend a little time with her she would reward you with love and affection. Turns out someone was watching the whole time, falling for this sweet ginger girl until a social media post by the shelter announced her 90th day there. That was our follower’s cue to go get her and give her a forever home of her own. We look forward to following her progress and have already heard she is coming out of her shell, becoming the affectionate, loving kitty we always knew was in there.

BAILEY
Bailey arrived at the shelter scared and withdrawn. She was sponsored by Dave’s Dogs but PWAA stepped in and paid for a dental for her. After more than 100 days in the shelter waiting for a forever home, one of the dog walkers volunteered to foster her, pronouncing that she always fosters with the intent to fail. Bailey went to her foster home, which included two feline residents and a dog, but stayed in the guest room decompressing for several days while she got used to her surroundings. We were all holding our breath until one day, Bailey decided she was ready to be a part of the family and darted out of the guest room and into the general population. It was only a matter of time before her foster mom did the paperwork and made Bailey an official foster WIN.

CALLI
Calli holds a very special place in our hearts. She was surrendered multiple times to the shelter, this last time as a senior needing a dental with extractions. After networking her for months with little success, one of us dog walkers went into the cat room, hoping to take photos, videos, and impressions of her to add a personal touch to our social media posts. Our visits with Calli opened our eyes to the importance of really getting to know the feline shelter residents. We now regularly spend volunteer shifts in the cat room gathering information on the neediest cats while trying to match potential adopters with their purrfect feline companions!
DELANEY

JULIAN
Julian was brought to the shelter at the age of 12 years young. We all fell in love immediately with this elder statesman and vowed to sponsor him, cover his neuter, and anything else he needed. He spent a couple months in the shelter being passed over for his younger counterparts and unfortunately developed a limp during his time there. He was put into foster where his foster family doted on him constantly but despite the pampering, he did not improve so we paid for him to get x-rays on his leg. They revealed degenerative cruciate disease, yet another black mark on his record when it comes to adoptability. However, Julian’s string of bad luck ended at Water’s End Brewery where he was adopted during our first fundraising event by a wonderful, caring family that was looking specifically for a senior and happened to have experience with his joint disease. He now spends his retirement days fishing on the Occoquan and snoozing on the couch with his forever family.

STEVE
Steve was brought into the shelter as a stray with some obvious sight impairment. Once we heard this special boy had been out on the streets, we knew we wanted to do whatever it took to help him. We sponsored him, had him neutered, and scheduled him for an appointment with an ophthalmologist. He was fostered by a vet tech while he recovered and waited for his eye appointment but unfortunately had to be returned to the shelter after the resident cat disapproved. Upon hearing he was back living in a cage, he was adopted almost immediately….by one of our board members! We soon learned it was love at first sight and they were just waiting for the right time to rescue Steve. Steve’s adopters are committed to taking him to his eye exam and following any recommendations by his vet. But for now, Steve is a permanent part of the PWAA family where he regularly attends board meetings via Zoom.

MAJESTY
We all fell in love with this sweet, happy, excitable young Boxer and were dismayed to hear he had been passed over for adoption several times for being cryptorchid, which would make his neuter more expensive. Since we badly wanted to see this guy find a loving home we sponsored him and paid for his neuter. The day we networked him on social media his new family saw our post and just knew he was the one for them. There were at the shelter at opening the very next day to make it official.
COCO
We paid for Coco’s (below) adoption fee not knowing he already had a friend who was also trying to sponsor him. So, we applied the fee to Coco and she was adopted that very same day! We like to think Coco is proof that our sponsorships are special!
JOHNNY CASH and COCO
These two senior brothers wound up in the shelter when their owner passed away. Their neighbor, who had been caring for them, could not keep them due to her own cat dynamics but was determined to do right by them. She sponsored their adoption through us and paid for Coco to have a much needed dental. We absolutely love when we can work with the people who cared for these animals to help see them through to their new retirement home. These brothers were adopted together only a few days after they were surrendered.
PUMPKIN
Dave’s Dogs sponsored Pumpkin and agreed to help get him a dental. However, further examination showed that Pumpkin had stomatitis, a painful oral condition that is manifest as inflammation. Given his dental was going to be more costly than originally anticipated, PWAA agreed to take on his case and had an online fundraiser. Thanks to our generous donors we raised enough money to cover his care. He now spends his days eating pain-free in his forever.
MAMACITA
Mamacita (now Massy) came to the shelter as a stray with a bad limp. The vet suspected a partial cruciate tear and recommended kennel rest. After some time when it became clear that Mamacita wasn’t getting better on kennel rest, and wasn’t getting adopted (her label as special needs and all her pent up energy did not help her to “show well” to adopters) PWAA stepped in and paid for an appointment with an orthopedist. Mamacita was diagnosed with bilateral cruciate tears. During all this, a wonderful adopter came forward and took Mamacita on, knowing she was “special needs”. We decided to work with the adopter and paid for the first of Mamacita’s surgeries to repair the worst of the torn ligaments. PWAA has developed a friendship with Mamacita’s new owner, who adores his little “Firecracker” more and more everyday as they have traveled on her healing journey together.
TRINITY
Trinity came to the shelter as a stray senior cat in rough shape. She was badly matted and underweight. We paid for Trinity to get several teeth extracted and a grooming which resulted in most of her fur being shaved off. Lots of networking allowed Trinity to find her forever home, where her adopter reports she is still a “hot mess” but is being showered with love and affection. We can’t wait to see some pictures of Trinity when her beautiful coat grows back!
TONGA

DALI
Dali came into the shelter system as a stray with her two babies. She was such a good mama she even took on two orphaned kittens, nursing them and raising them as her own. We sponsored Dali’s spay and adoption because we just loved how great of a foster mom she was – just like the volunteers of PWAA!

PIPER
Piper was one of our foster dogs who raised her puppies with the PWAA family. We sponsored her adoption in honor of the deep love and affection her foster mom felt towards her. We were elated to hear she now has a forever home with a canine sister she bonded with instantly.
SCARLETT
Scarlett came to the shelter as a transfer severely underweight and nursing a bad leg. We got Scarlett looked at by a veterinary radiologist and blood tests to rule out acute disease. While at the vet she met her forever family who is committed to her ongoing healing and care.
ALICE

SKIPPY
Skippy was surrendered to the shelter after not getting along with the resident toddler. At 10 years old and with food allergies he was at risk of being looked over. We sponsored Skippy’s adoption while a friend of PWAA paid to have his teeth cleaned and several extracted. He is now enjoying life in a quieter environment.

SKYLAR
Skylar is a pup who became a mother much too young and had trouble getting adopted after her puppies were all scooped up. Still a teenager herself, she had a reputation for being a handful and didn’t always make a great impression with her visitors. Her favorite dog walker took an interest in her, sponsored her adoption and spay, and networked this girl all over the county telling everyone who’d listen what a great dog Skylar is once you get to know her. Only a couple days later, Skylar found her forever home.
MIDNIGHT
Midnight came to the Prince William County Animal Shelter with her sister Precious after a concerned citizen alerted animal control that their neighbors had moved and left their cats behind to fend for themselves. PWAA sponsored the spays and adoptions for both sisters in hopes they would be adopted as a pair. It became clear after a few days of sharing a large condo that the girls weren’t bonded and preferred life apart! After being separated they each became happier and now Midnight has found her new home.
FINN
Finn is an adorable senior guy who came to the shelter badly in need of a dental cleaning with multiple extractions. We signed on to give him everything he needed to be the companion he could be. We did such a good job, he got adopted before we could even advertise him!
DELILAH
Delilah lived for eleven years outside and tied to a chain. When she was finally surrendered to the shelter with her son, she had never been spayed and had several masses including a large one on her cheek. With the help of a local donation to Caring Hands Veterinary Clinic, we were able to get Delilah spayed and her masses removed. She still spent a lot of time waiting at the shelter for a new home but while there she became a favorite of volunteers and staff alike. Routine feedings, a warm bed and tons of love and affection allowed her to blossom into stunning new dog that finally went to her forever home, much to the delight of the entire PWAA community.
PRECIOUS
Precious came to the Prince William County Animal Shelter with her sister Midnight after a concerned citizen alerted animal control that their neighbors had moved and left their cats behind to fend for themselves. PWAA sponsored the spays and adoptions for both sisters in hopes they would be adopted as a pair. It became clear after a few days of sharing a large condo that the girls weren’t bonded and preferred life apart! After being separated they each became happier and now Precious has found her new home.
RALPHIE
Ralphie came to the Prince William County Animal Shelter as a transfer from a rural partner shelter. Upon arrival he was a bit of a mess, he hadn’t been neutered, was badly in need of a dental cleaning with extractions, and had an unsightly skin tag hanging from his chest. We got him the care he needed to be looking and feeling his best and now he is living life in his forever home.
SMOKEY and MISTY
Smokey and Misty arrived at the shelter after their owner could no longer care for them. At 12 years old and deeply bonded it was going to be difficult for them to get adopted together. On top of that, Misty was badly in need of a dental cleaning and extraction. We raised enough money through an online fundraiser to pay for Misty’s dental procedure and sponsor them both. The day after Misty made her return to the shelter, her and her brother Smokey were adopted as a pair.
POOCHIE
Poochie is a 14-year old Jack Russell Terrier who was surrendered to the shelter. He still has plenty of pep in his step but had not been neutered and was badly in need of a dental cleaning and extractions. After a couple weeks of being passed over it became clear his veterinary needs were holding him back. We split his vet bill with Dave’s Dogs paying his neuter and we picked up his dental. He was adopted his first day after his procedures.
LACY
When 13-year old Lacy found herself at the shelter it was heartbreaking. Despite sponsoring her adoption and getting her some much needed dental attention we worried she was still waiting way too long for a home. But it seems it was worth the wait as we found out that Lacy is thriving in her new home. She has adjusted to life with dog and cat siblings and is very loved by her human family as well. Look at her all bundled up in her winter gear!
Her mom writes:
“Lacy is an amazing dog. It took a couple of weeks for her to really settle in, but every day with her is special! We had two cats and two dogs, and that was the challenge for Lacy. But once she realized that it wasn’t a competition, and that she needs to respect the space of the other girls, it’s very peaceful. The girl dogs are 10 and 12, and Lacy actually has quite a bit more energy! We had some food aggression issues, but we worked that out too and all are happy as a pack now! We love her so much!!! Thank you so much for sponsoring Lacy. I do honestly believe that your sponsorship made a huge difference in our decision to adopt Lacy. Thank you for what you do!”
ARCHIE
Archie came to the shelter as a stray and as a senior he badly needed dental care. We paid for his neuter and 14 teeth to be extracted! This sweet little guy was adopted his first day back at the shelter.
DORI and BLUE
Dori and Blue came to the shelter together after their owner could no longer care for them and we were determined that they stay together. In order to make it easier to be adopted as a pair, we paid for Blue’s neuter and had two masses removed so he’d be in great shape for his new family with his sister Dori. We sponsored them as a pair and they were adopted together in time for the holidays.
SOMBRE

BLAZE and PRECIOUS
Blaze and Precious are hound mix sisters that arrived together at the shelter as a transfer from a rural partner shelter. They are bonded and ideally should be adopted as a pair. However both girls needed to be spayed, Precious had a mass and both girls were badly in need of a dental cleaning. We realized this is a lot to ask of a potential adopter to take on. So Dave’s Dogs sponsored both sisters and paid for their spays while we at PWAA covered their dental cleanings and mass removal. Blaze and Precious received the procedures they needed and shortly thereafter they were adopted. Together!
JOURNEY
Journey came to the shelter as a stray. He was thin and unable to put weight on his back leg. X-rays indicated a couple badly torn ligaments and several bone fractures in his leg and multiple vets agreed that amputation was his best option to live pain free. We knew our supporters would find Journey’s story as compelling as we did. So we asked for your help and together, we raised enough money for his amputation. He had his surgery in December of 2020 and recovered comfortably in foster care. He was recently adopted and is thriving as a tri-pawd in his forever home.

RAIN
Rain was transferred to the PWCAS from a rural shelter partner and unbeknownst to the staff she was already pregnant. Once this discovery was made one of us stepped up to foster this mom-to-be and cared for her through the birth and early days of her seven perfect puppies. Rain stayed with her foster mom up until the puppies were ready to be adopted but we worried she would be overlooked in the middle of all the puppy hubbub so we sponsored her spay and adoption. She was adopted the same day we advertised her!
MILA
Mila was brought to the shelter as a stray in September with a painful ulcerated eye. We wanted to ensure she would receive proper veterinary care before finding her forever home. In partnership with Dave’s Dogs we were able to cover the cost of her eye removal surgery and now she has a home of her own.
